When you are looking to buy a puppy you should always try to get it from a breeder and not just any breeder, a responsible breeder.  With so many puppies for sale how can you tell the difference between a backyard breeder and a responsible breeder?  There are a few tell tail signs that you are dealing with a responsible breeder, if your breeder is not consistent with any of the following then it is likely you are dealing with a backyard breeder and should look elsewhere.

A Pedigree

Backyard breeders either sell directly to customers, online or through petstores.  They are not the occasional pet thats dog accidently got pregnant, they breed dogs in their yard for puppies to sell.  The entire point of the breeding for the backyard breeder is to make a profit off of selling the puppies so their criteria for potential owners is pretty open.  Anyone who has money can get a dog.  Below are the pros and cons of backyard breeders.
