Add Some Color To Your Dog's Life

If your not ready to take the full plunge and dye your dog pink or blue but you want to add some color to your dog's appearance, there are plenty of options out there that are safe, easy and fun!  Halloween is the perfect time to test out a new look that just might make your dog a bit more colorful all year long.

The Chalk Hawk
This idea came from a reader.  Lourdes Lebron sent us the amazing photo of her dog Tuffy to the right.  She uses Crayola Sidewalk Chalk to color Tuffy's Mohawk.  Not only is this totally safe for your dog but it also washes out so you can change the color as much as you like.  This will work only for dogs with light fur and the lighter the fur the more vibrant color!  You can get a set of 52 pieces for $5.99 from Crayola.

Face Paint Tattoos
You can use non toxic face paints and watercolors to draw tattoos on your dog. While this works best with lighter fur, any short fur will typically pick up some of the pigment.  If you use watercolor pencils to get the tattoo on you should work the color out on the back of your hand to make sure that the pencil is soft before applying it to your dogs skin.  This will wash out easily but might leave marks on light clothing and materials so before you draw that big pumpkin on your dog, make sure your white couch is covered!

Glitter Spray
Dogs with long hair or even just short haired dogs can be sprayed with glitter spray to add a little sparkle.  Just like hair spray, glitter spray will have a light adhesive to get the glitter to stick.  Again make sure you use a non toxic formula and apply to where your dog can not lick it off.

Nail Polish
If your dog will allow it, many won't, you can polish your pups nails.  We are not entirely sure you need to buy dog specific polish since it is made of the same materials as people polish, but if you feel better about it they are available on amazon.com for $4.99.  If you use a human polish, just make sure the nails are 100% dry before your dog can lick it.

These are just four non permanent ways to add some color to your dog for Halloween of for everyday.
