CORRECTION: The family has informed us that the $1000 is actually a reward to help find Daisy. If you know anyone in the Newark area please let them know to start looking if they have not already.
During the transportation of a Lab/Shephard mix named Daisy from Syracuse to San Diego, Continental Airlines managed to lose the dog. Daisy broke free from her crate in Newark while transferring her between planes. Daisy has been spotted in Newark over the past two weeks but has not been captured yet. The airlines offered Daisy's family $1000 to make up for losing their beloved pet.
While $1000 seems like a paltry amount for the loss of a loved one, under the law dogs only count as property and owners are only entitled to compensation for the amount of the dog. It does appear that Continental is actively looking to find Daisy and has even flown the family twice to Newark from San Diego to find her.

Thank You for covering Daisy's story, there is one correction I would like to make. The $1000 was not offered to our family to "make up" for losing Daisy, it is being offered as a reward to anyone who locates Daisy and helps bring her home.
