Seven Puppies Die On AA Flight - Possibly Sick To Begin With

American Airlines - By Staff Writer on Thursday, August 19, 2010 - 11:56

Seven puppies died on a flight from Tulsa to Chicago on August 7th.   While the temperature was one degree above (86 degrees) their allowed temperature for checked dogs (85 degrees) at the time of takeoff, autopsy shows that the puppies deaths were likely a result of pre-existing conditions.  With other dogs on the flight arriving just fine, the only conclusion is that the dogs were weak prior to flight.

This sad story is a good reminder that flying in the cargo hold puts extreme stress on dogs and that any dog suspected of having a compromised system should not fly.  The hard part is it is not always detectable if a dog has a compromised system so do your best to make sure your dog is healthy to fly.
